Épült 1964-ben a Balatonfüredi Hajógyárban.

A hajón lévő tábla szerint: Utasbefogadóképesség: 500 fő, Teherbírás: 129,3 t.

A kormányállásból a motorok távirányíthatók. 2004-től fogyasztásmérő is található benne.

2 db SKL 6NVD26A-2 dieselmotor. A motor hajtómű felé menő tegelyén a lendkerék mögötti speciális szerkezet vész-tengelykapcsoló funkciót tölt be, ha valamiért megakad a Voith-Schnieder propeller, akkor ez a szerkezet bontja a motor és hajtómű közti kapcsolatot. 2005-ben a hajóba Caterpillar motorok kerültek.

Amikor a 80-as években a Kossuth kompot hosszabbították a füredi hajógyárban, akkor a honvédség finaszírozta egy részét a felújításnak, és ennek eredményeképpen az kocsipálya alatti részen dupla sűrűségű bordázatot építettek be (kb. 15 cm-ként), azaz ez az egy hajó alkalmas a Balatonon harci járművek (pl. tankok) szállítására.
